Brüssel: 27-28.11. – Europe-China: cooperation, competition and the search for common ground

PAST

In September, the European Commission adopted its joint communication on connecting Europe and Asia. The new strategy would step up connections between the two continents through a framework based on sustainable, comprehensive and rules-based connectivity. With bilateral partnerships of key importance to this strategy, what kind of synergies can there be with China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)?

To discuss this and other topics of key importance to Europe-China relations, Friends of Europe is delighted to invite you to our annual Europe-China Policy & Practice Roundtable and Forum, “Europe-China: cooperation, competition and the search for common ground”, taking place on 27-28 November 2018 in Brussels.

The Policy & Practice Roundtable taking place on 27 November is by invitation only and will bring together around 30 Chinese and European scholars, think tank representatives, policymakers and business representatives for an open and lively debate on Europe-China relations. Recommendations from the Roundtable will be shared the next day with a wider audience at the Europe-China Forum.

Joining for us these events will be, among others: Andrejs Pildegovičs, Latvian Permanent Representative to the UN and Foreign Affairs State Secretary (2013-2018); Maja Bakran, European Commission Deputy Director-General for Mobility and Transport; Wang Yao, Director General of the International Institute of Green Finance (CUFE); Jo Leinen, Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with the People’s Republic of China; Chi Fulin, President of the China Institute for Reform and Development (CIRD); Monica Gheorghita, Romanian State Secretary for Global Affairs; Wu Changhua, Director for China at the Office of Jeremy Rifkin; and Pierre Amilhat, Director for Asia in the European Commission Directorate-General for Development Cooperation, among others.
